AMC exam dates, booking and results: the complete 2026–2027 timeline

TL;DR

  • AMC exam dates for the Part 1 CAT MCQ run as monthly events from February to November; nothing in December or January.

  • Each event has a scheduling close date about three weeks before the exam week and results at 4:00 pm on the Friday three weeks after exam week, usually around the second week of the next month.

  • Last 2026 event: 16–21 November (scheduling closes 26 October, results Friday 11 December). First 2027 event: 15–20 February (closes 25 January, results 12 March).

  • You book one event and venue through Pearson VUE inside a 12-month AMC authorisation; changes are free until the close date.

  • AMC exam results are released at 4:00 pm on the Friday three weeks after exam week, in your AMC account.

  • Use the results window to sit your English test and a month-specific AMC mock exam.

  • Use the results window to sit your English test and a month-specific AMC mock exam on AMC Academic, the trusted AMC exam preparation platform for IMGs, to see how you would have gone.

The AMC CAT MCQ runs as monthly examination events from February to November, each with a scheduling close date roughly three weeks before the sitting and results at 4:00 pm on the Friday three weeks after the exam week. You book one event and one venue through Pearson VUE, inside a 12-month authorisation window, and your result lands in your AMC account at 4:00 pm on release day. Here’s every published date for the rest of 2026 and most of 2027, then how booking, rescheduling and results actually work.

How AMC exam booking works

  1. Get authorised. Apply in your AMC account and pay the AUD 2,920 AMC exam fee. Twelve months, one attempt, no extensions. If your degree isn’t verified yet the option won’t appear; see How to register for the AMC exam.

  2. Wait for the Pearson VUE email. The AMC passes your authorisation across; Pearson VUE tells you when you can schedule.

  3. Schedule. One event, one venue, via Pearson VUE’s site or phone line.

  4. Do it the day the email arrives. Some venues have a handful of seats and they go first come, first served. The AMC’s own advice is to schedule as early as you can.

  5. Download your placement letter from your AMC account. It’s what you show a visa officer if you’re travelling to sit.

Within the event week, Pearson VUE allocates your specific day and time. You won’t always get the day you wanted.

Rescheduling and cancelling

Before the close date: change event or venue as often as you like, free, if there’s a seat. After the close date: nothing changes, and a no-show consumes the authorisation and the fee.

Cancelling the authorisation outright is a different matter and only accepted with evidence: a medical certificate, or a statutory declaration for domestic circumstances, sent with the AMC’s cancellation form before your authorisation expires. Refunds are 75% within a month of paying and 50% after. Full rules in AMC exam fees in 2026.

The rule we’d tattoo on candidates: never let a close date pass without a decision. Not ready? Move to a later event before the deadline. It costs nothing.

Choosing your event

Work back from the exam. Three to six months at 20–25 hours a week is what most working doctors need for AMC Part 1. Pick an event that gives you that, then add a month for the weeks life will take.

Count from the results date, not the exam date, if a job, a visa or a Clinical release depends on your pass.

Watch the authorisation clock. Pay in October, sit the following September, and you’ve used 11 of 12 months with no room to slip. Pay when you’re six to nine months from ready.

How AMC exam results work

Results are issued by the AMC, not Pearson VUE, into your AMC account at 4:00 pm Canberra time on the release date for your event. That’s the Friday three weeks after your exam week, which in practice falls around the second week of the following month.

To see them: sign in, choose “AMC assessments”, then “MCQ Results”, then your exam under the Details column. You get a scaled score from 0 to 500 with 250 as the pass mark, plus feedback by content area. No percentage, no raw mark. How that scale works is in What is the AMC CAT MCQ exam?.

One thing that changed: the AMC no longer re-marks (“verifies”) MCQ results. Scoring is electronic and goes through statistical review before release, so the AMC, on the ombudsman’s recommendation, dropped the manual check. If something went wrong on the day, raise it with the Pearson VUE centre, which reports to the AMC.

Passed? Your account will show it, and you can apply for a Clinical placement at the next release. Didn’t? You can buy a new authorisation immediately; read your content-area feedback first.

What to do with the three-week results window

This is the most wasted stretch in the whole pathway. Your knowledge is fresh, your study routine is intact, and you can’t do anything about the result. Two good uses:

Sit your English test. Ahpra wants IELTS Academic 7 (6.5 writing) or the OET, PTE, TOEFL or Cambridge equivalent, and you’ll need it whatever happens. Book it before you sit the MCQ so the date is fixed.

Sit a month-specific mock for the event you just did. If you didn’t pass, it shows you where. If you did, it’s a free confidence check and it keeps the habit alive for the Clinical.

AMC Clinical exam dates

The Clinical doesn’t follow a monthly calendar. Places are released in batches. The AMC finished its release for September to December 2026, said the waitlist had reached capacity, and expected the next in-person release, for 2027 dates, in November 2026, with details in October.

Online Clinical sittings are separate and currently limited to candidates living and working as doctors in areas classed MMM 2 to 7. The last announced sittings were 10 and 11 November 2026, with applications closing 28 September 2026. Clinical results also land at 4:00 pm on the Friday three weeks after the exam. Everything else about it is in the AMC Clinical exam guide.

Month-specific mocks: sit last month’s exam this week

We built AMC Academic’s month-specific mock exams around exactly this calendar. Each one is a full 150-question, forward-only, timed mock built around the topics candidates reported from a specific sitting, so you can answer the question every IMG asks after a results release: “how would I have gone?” There are seven of them, plus three high-yield mocks (the first is free), and every one comes back with a topic-by-topic feedback report rather than a single score. Astra reads that report and tells you what to fix before your own event. The 20 free questions on the landing page are the same idea in miniature, no account needed; a free account gives you five days of everything. Plans are USD 39 a month, 29 a month for three months, 19 a month for six, money back if it isn’t for you.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sit the AMC MCQ on any date?

No. Despite what some guides say, it runs as monthly events with fixed weeks. You choose the event; Pearson VUE allocates your day.

Are there AMC exams in December or January?

No. February to November only.

How long do AMC exam results take?

Three weeks. Results come out at 4:00 pm on the Friday three weeks after your exam week, which usually lands around the second week of the following month.

Can I sit two events on one authorisation?

No. One authorisation, one attempt.

What if I’m sick on the day?

After the close date, contact the AMC promptly with a medical certificate and apply for a partial refund under the exceptional circumstances rules. Before the close date, just move events.
