AMC Exam Fees 2026: MCQ, Clinical & Registration Costs (Full Breakdown)

AMC Exam Fees 2026: MCQ, Clinical & Registration Costs (Full Breakdown)

AMC exam fees in 2026: the full cost breakdown

TL;DR

  • AMC exam fees in 2026: AUD 642 to open the AMC portfolio, AUD 2,920 for the AMC Part 1 CAT MCQ, AUD 3,000 for the in-person Clinical exam or AUD 3,400 online.

  • A first-time pass on both parts is about AUD 6,560 in AMC fees; each MCQ resit adds AUD 2,920.

  • Budget AUD 10,000–15,000 all-in once you add ECFMG verification, an English test, a question bank and travel to Melbourne.

  • Refunds are partial and only with evidence; a no-show gets nothing.

  • Preparation is the cheapest line in the budget. AMC Academic, the trusted AMC exam preparation platform for IMGs aspiring to practise in Australia, is USD 19–39 a month with 20 free questions to try first.

The AMC CAT MCQ costs AUD 2,920, the in-person AMC Clinical exam costs AUD 3,000, and opening the AMC portfolio you need before either costs AUD 642. Those are the numbers on the AMC’s fees page as of September 2026, quoted in Australian dollars and GST-free. Below is every fee in the pathway, the refund rule attached to each one, and the costs outside the AMC that people forget to budget for until they’re already committed.

What each fee actually buys

The AMC registration fee (AUD 642) opens your account, gives you a candidate number and covers the AMC’s side of verifying one medical degree through ECFMG. Paid once. The steps are in How to register for the AMC exam.

The MCQ authorisation (AUD 2,920) buys you 12 months to schedule and sit one CAT MCQ at any Pearson VUE venue that runs it. The clock starts the day you pay and the AMC doesn’t extend it. It also includes the AMC’s free MCQ Preparation App, which had 210 practice questions at launch and was due a refresh in April 2026.

The Clinical fee (AUD 3,000 or 3,400) is due when you accept a placement. For online sittings the AMC wants payment within 24 hours of the offer. Both fees were cut in July 2025, from AUD 3,991 and 4,391, so if a forum post quotes the old numbers, it’s stale.

“Evidence” means a medical certificate for illness or injury, or a statutory declaration for domestic circumstances, sent with the AMC’s Cancellation of Authorisation form before your authorisation expires. Changing your mind doesn’t count. Moving to a later exam event before the closing date, on the other hand, is free; see AMC exam dates, booking and results.

Outside these rules the AMC only refunds in exceptional circumstances decided by its CEO, and it says outright that minor illness and travel problems don’t qualify.

What a realistic total looks like

AMC fees only, ignoring travel, prep and English:

Scenario

Rough total

Pass both first time

AUD 6,560 plus ECFMG

One MCQ resit, Clinical first time

AUD 9,480 plus ECFMG

One MCQ resit and one Clinical resit

AUD 12,480 plus ECFMG

Add an English test, a question bank and one trip to Melbourne and most candidates land between AUD 10,000 and 15,000 from first application to AMC Certificate, if they pass each part first time. Every AMC Part 1 failure adds AUD 2,920. Every Clinical failure adds AUD 3,000 and another flight.

That’s the real argument for preparing properly the first time. It isn’t a sales line; it’s the fee table.

Paying in rupees, taka, dirhams or pesos

The AMC takes Australian dollars only, by Visa or Mastercard. Your bank converts at its own rate and usually adds a foreign transaction fee of 2 to 3.5%. On AUD 2,920 that’s up to AUD 100 for nothing. Check what your card charges before you pay; some cards charge zero. And use a live converter on the day rather than a number from a blog, because rates move. Country-specific budgets are in The AMC exam for Indian and Pakistani doctors.

What preparation should cost

Set against a AUD 2,920 resit, a question bank is loose change, and it’s the one line in the budget that lowers all the others. AMC Academic is USD 39 for one month, 29 a month for three months, or 19 a month for six. Plans run for their term and then end; nothing renews behind your back, and there’s a money-back guarantee. For that you get 2,800+ AMC Part 1 questions written to the blueprint and what the exam has actually been asking across 2025 and 2026, an explanation on every option, three high-yield mock exams (the first is free), seven month-specific mocks with full topic feedback, Astra, and the complete IELTS Academic course, which saves you a second subscription for the English exam. Before any of that, there are 20 free questions on the landing page with no account and no card, and a free five-day trial when you sign up. Hundreds of IMGs have passed with it; read their words on the site and decide for yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AMC MCQ fee refundable if I fail?

No. One authorisation is one attempt. The next attempt is another AUD 2,920.

Does the AUD 2,920 include the Pearson VUE booking?

Yes. There’s no separate Pearson VUE charge for the AMC exam.

How much is the AMC exam in total?

AUD 6,560 in AMC fees for a first-time pass on both parts, before ECFMG, English testing, preparation and travel.

Has the AMC exam fee increased in 2026?

No. The MCQ has been AUD 2,920 since mid- 2024 and the Clinical fees were cut in July 2025. The AMC reviews fees annually, so check the official page on the day you pay.

Is there a fee to get my results?

No. Results appear in your AMC account. The AUD 107 is only for reissuing them later.

What to do this week

  1. Bookmark the AMC fees page and check it the day you pay anything.

  2. Ask your bank what it charges on foreign card payments.

  3. Write a full budget, including English testing and Melbourne, before paying for MCQ authorisation.

  4. Pick your preparation before you pay, so the 12 months aren’t spent shopping.
