What the 20 free AMC practice questions cover

The AMC CAT MCQ is 150 questions in 3.5 hours, pitched at Australian intern level and keyed to Australian guidelines. The AMC publishes the blueprint: adult health medicine 30 per cent, adult health surgery 20 per cent, women's health, child health, mental health, and population health and ethics 12.5 per cent each. The free set follows that blueprint within one question in every group, which is what makes it a fair sample of the exam rather than a random handful of medicine questions. The topics, in the order you will meet them:

19Prolonged jaundice in a breastfed infantChild health
20Driving after a first seizurePopulation health and ethics

Each question is a single-best-answer item with five options, the AMC's format. There are no hints in the stems: the sign is described, not named, exactly as the exam does it. After you answer, you see the correct option, why it is correct, why each of the other four is wrong, and an AMC tip that states the Australian rule the question turns on. That last part is what separates AMC Academic from every other source of AMC sample questions: you don't just learn that you were wrong, you learn which piece of Australian practice you were missing.

Why AMC Academic is the most trusted AMC question bank for IMGs

Most doctors who fail AMC Part 1 don't fail for lack of medicine. They fail because the management they were taught at home is not the management the AMC marks correct. A general medical question bank, a USMLE or PLAB bank, or a folder of recalls cannot fix that, because none of them is written to the Australian answer. AMC Academic AMC MCQ & IELTS Preparation was built by international medical graduates who sat and passed the AMC exam, for one purpose: AMC Part 1 preparation that matches the exam you will actually sit.

  • Built to the AMC MCQ blueprint. Every one of the 2,800+ questions in the AMC Academic question bank is mapped to one of the six AMC patient groups in the exam's proportions. You never spend a week on a topic the exam gives three marks to.

  • Closely aligned with how the AMC asks. Single best answer, five options, intern-level clinical stems, management and next-step questions in the AMC's style. Candidates tell us the real paper felt familiar. That is the point.

  • Every option explained against Australian guidelines. Therapeutic Guidelines, the RACGP Red Book, the Royal Children's Hospital guidelines, RANZCOG, RANZCP, Austroads, the National Law. Not just why the right answer is right, but why the answer you would have given at home is wrong here.

  • AMC mock exams for your exam month. Three high-yield mock tests and seven month-specific AMC mock exams, each 150 questions in 3.5 hours, timed and forward-only like the CAT MCQ, scored by patient group so you know exactly where the next fortnight goes.

  • IELTS Academic included. Ahpra needs IELTS Academic 7 (6.5 in writing) or an equivalent before registration. Every AMC Academic plan includes the full IELTS Academic course for doctors, so your AMC MCQ exam preparation and your IELTS Academic exam preparation run on one platform, one login, one subscription.

  • Astra, the AI study companion. Ask Astra about the question you just got wrong and it answers from the Australian guideline, not from the internet. It also reads your performance and tells you which patient group to fix next.

  • Honest terms. Plans from US$19 a month on the six-month plan, US$29 on three months, US$39 for one month. Fixed term, nothing renews automatically, 7-day money-back guarantee. One AMC resit costs AUD 2,920; six months of AMC Academic is about a twenty-fifth of that.

How to use the free AMC sample questions

Sit them at exam pace, 84 seconds a question, forward only, and write your letter down before you read the explanation. Read the explanation for the option you chose, not only the correct one. Then count your misses by patient group. If three of your misses sit in one group, that is your study plan. If you want the sorting done for you, the 10-question AMC diagnostic maps each wrong answer to its group.

Twenty questions show you the standard. Passing takes volume: most candidates who pass complete 2,000 to 3,000 blueprint-mapped questions and two or three full AMC mock tests over three to six months at 20 to 25 hours a week. The 12-week AMC Part 1 study schedule lays that out day by day, and the 50 free worked AMC clinical cases give you one case for every week of it.

AMC question bank, AMC prep course or AMC recalls?

Three kinds of AMC exam preparation are on offer. Coaching and AMC preparation courses add structure and cost between AUD 1,000 and several thousand; they do not add content the exam tests. Recalls and "free AMC past papers" are reconstructions from memory; the AMC has said reviewed recall papers contained incorrect stems and answers, and sharing them breaches exam conditions. A blueprint-mapped AMC question bank with referenced explanations is the one tool that does the work itself, and AMC Academic is the best AMC question bank for that job because it was built for nothing else. The AMC's own MCQ Preparation App, 210 questions free with authorisation, is worth doing once for calibration; it is the only material from the examining body, and it pairs well with a full bank.
