Pearson VUE's AMC login, at pearsonvue.com/amc, is only for scheduling, rescheduling and cancelling your seat at an AMC MCQ event. Everything else in the AMC exam process lives in your AMC account at portal.amc.org.au: your portfolio, your authorisation and its AUD 2,920 fee, your placement letter and your result. You need both accounts, in that order, because Pearson VUE cannot book you until the AMC has authorised you to sit. Once the seat is booked, the weeks before the exam decide the result, and that is what we built AMC Academic for: the AMC question bank most closely aligned with the AMC blueprint.
At a glance
The AMC exam uses two logins: your AMC account (portal.amc.org.au) and Pearson VUE (pearsonvue.com/amc).
Pearson VUE opens for you only after the AMC issues your authorisation and Pearson VUE emails to confirm it.
One authorisation costs AUD 2,920, lasts 12 months and covers one attempt at one AMC exam event.
You can change your event or venue free of charge until 21 days before the exam. After that, a no-show forfeits the authorisation and the fee.
Results come from the AMC, in your AMC account, at 4:00 pm Canberra time on the Friday three weeks after your exam week.
Between booking and exam day, prepare with the AMC Academic question bank: 2,800+ questions mapped to the AMC blueprint, and timed mocks that follow the real exam's timing and forward-only format.
Which login does what?
| Task | Where you do it | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Set up your candidate record and initial portfolio | AMC account | AUD 642, covering one qualification |
| Apply and pay for an AMC MCQ authorisation | AMC account | AUD 2,920; valid 12 months; one attempt |
| Choose your event, venue and seat | Pearson VUE | Only after Pearson VUE's confirmation email |
| Change your event or venue | Pearson VUE | Free until 21 days before the exam, if a seat is free |
| Download your placement letter | AMC account | Needed for a visa if you travel to sit |
| Cancel the authorisation for a refund | AMC cancellation form | Evidence required; 75% refunded in the first month after paying, then 50% |
| See your result | AMC account | Released by the AMC, never by Pearson VUE |
The rule behind the split is simple. The AMC decides whether you can sit and whether you passed; Pearson VUE runs the test centres. Eligibility, money and results go through the AMC, and anything to do with a seat goes through Pearson VUE. The steps from first login to authorisation are set out in the AMC registration guide.
How do you log in to Pearson VUE for the AMC exam?
Wait for Pearson VUE's email. It arrives once Pearson VUE has received your authorisation from the AMC. Until then there is nothing to book.
Create an account or sign in at pearsonvue.com/amc. First-time users create a Pearson VUE web account; returning users sign in. Lost details are recovered through the Forgot username and Forgot password links on the same page.
Book on the day the email arrives. Choose one event covered by your authorisation, then a venue. Seats are allocated first come, first served, and some venues have only a handful.
Check your AMC account. The AMC issues your placement letter there once the booking is made.
Pearson VUE sets your exact day and time within the event week, and it is not always the day you asked for, so keep the whole week clear. Every event and its scheduling deadline is listed in AMC exam dates 2027, and AMC exam centres covers where you can sit. The AMC MCQ is not offered online; can you sit the AMC exam online? covers the test-centre rule and the online Clinical exam.
Why can't you see AMC exam dates in Pearson VUE?
Five causes account for nearly every case.
Your authorisation hasn't been issued. Check its status in your AMC account. Without it, Pearson VUE has nothing to schedule.
Pearson VUE's email hasn't arrived. Check your junk folder, then contact Pearson VUE if the authorisation shows as issued.
Scheduling for that event has closed. Each event closes 21 days before it starts. Choose a later event covered by your authorisation.
The venue is full. Pick another venue or another event. Seats are not held for anyone.
The authorisation has expired or been used. It lasts 12 months and covers one attempt. Another attempt needs a new authorisation and another AUD 2,920.
The 21-day rule for rescheduling and cancelling
You can move an AMC exam booking to another event or venue as often as you like, free of charge, until 21 days before the exam, provided a seat is available. From that point the booking is fixed, and missing the exam forfeits both the authorisation and its AUD 2,920 fee.
Cancelling the authorisation itself is handled by the AMC, not Pearson VUE. You send the AMC's cancellation form with evidence, such as a medical certificate or a statutory declaration, before the authorisation expires. The AMC refunds 75 percent of the fee if you apply in the first month after paying, and half after that.
If you are travelling to sit and your visa will not be ready in time, move the placement early rather than waiting for the deadline; Pearson VUE gives the same advice. Every charge and refund is itemised in the AMC exam fees guide.
Who should you contact: Pearson VUE or the AMC?
| Problem | Who handles it |
|---|---|
| Login, password, booking or venue change | Pearson VUE: live chat Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm US Central Time; 1800 023 095 in Australia; 0800 451 260 in New Zealand |
| No email after your authorisation shows as issued | Pearson VUE |
| Portfolio, verification, authorisation, fees or refunds | The AMC, through your AMC account |
| Placement letter or exam result | The AMC, through your AMC account |
| Registration to practise once you have passed | Ahpra and the Medical Board of Australia |
Numbers for other countries are listed on Pearson VUE's AMC page. The AMC's own channels are covered in how to contact the AMC, and AHPRA vs AMC explains which body handles what once the AMC exam is behind you.
After you book
Your placement letter is in your AMC account. Identification, arrival times and the rules inside the test centre are covered in AMC CAT MCQ exam day. The AMC releases results at 4:00 pm Canberra time on the Friday three weeks after the exam week, and a scaled score of 250 out of 500 is a pass; AMC MCQ results explains the number. If you need to book again after a fail, see failed the AMC MCQ. Once you pass, the next stage is AMC Part 2.
Use the weeks before your exam on AMC Academic
Booking is the administrative half of sitting the AMC MCQ. The other half is arriving able to answer 150 questions at about 84 seconds each, with no going back, and that is the half we built AMC Academic for. We passed the AMC exam ourselves as IMGs, and we made AMC Academic the question bank most closely aligned with the AMC blueprint. Make it your main study resource between booking and exam day.
Every question earns its place. More than 2,800 AMC Part 1 questions in our question bank, each mapped to the AMC blueprint and spread across the six patient groups in the AMC's own proportions.
It reads like the real exam. Our questions are very similar to the actual AMC questions: a short clinical stem, one decision, five options and an answer keyed to an Australian guideline.
Mocks run on exam-day rules. Our mocks give you 150 questions to the real exam's timing, forward-only like the day itself, including month-specific mocks for the sitting you have booked, each scored by specialty and topic.
Every option is explained. Not just the key: we take each distractor apart against Australian references, from eTG and the Red Book to the Immunisation Handbook.
Astra tells you what to fix. Our AI study companion reads your results and points you to the specialty to revise next.
Start with our 20 free AMC practice questions, with no account and no card, and our 50 free clinical cases. Full access starts at US$19 a month on the six-month plan, with no automatic renewal and a 7-day money-back guarantee; the AMC Academic plans page has the options, and our guide to the best AMC question bank sets out what to look for in any question bank. If the computer-adaptive format is new to you, read our AMC CAT MCQ exam guide first; the AMC exam overview covers both stages.
